TMJ (Jaw Joint) Treatment and Atlas Therapy

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jaw to the skull and works thousands of times a day. Problems here rarely stay in the jaw: headaches, ringing in the ears and neck and shoulder tension often come with them. Fzt. Kemran Hafız assesses the jaw together with the upper cervical vertebrae — particularly the atlas — and the neck muscles.

It is a short trip by car or public transport from İhsaniye, Odunluk, Balat, Özlüce, Ataevler, 23 Nisan and the surrounding areas. Every session is one-to-one, assessment-based and tailored to you.

Chewing muscles can also be affected in a neurological condition

After a stroke or a neurological condition, the nerve pathways controlling the chewing muscles can also be affected; in that case, jaw locking or asymmetric mouth opening is a different picture from one caused purely by TMJ, and needs a different assessment.

Fzt. Kemran Hafız makes this distinction through neurological examination and builds the programme around manual work for the chewing muscles. If a swallowing-related finding is noticed, physiotherapy's limit ends there — it's run together with a physician and, if needed, a speech and language therapist.
